How-To get Mp3 support for Amarok on Fedora10

By on January 4th, 2009

Fedora 10 ships with Amarok 1.94. If you install the the amarok-extras-free world package then you may not get your Mp3s to still play. This is because the amarok-extras-free depends on two more packages (dont confuse with dependencies) named: libtunepimp-extras-nonfree and xine-lib-extras-nonfree.

So, to install them run the following command at your terminal:

user@localhost ~]$ sudo yum -y install libtunepimp-extras-nonfree xine-lib-extras-nonfree

xine-lib-extras-freeworld has the codecs you need in F10. On F9 it was xine-lib-extras-nonfree

Under fedora 10 the command ‘yum -y install libtunepimp-extras-nonfree xine-lib-extras-nonfree’ starts to load the plugins and starts the install process but comes back stating that the two packages, libtunepimp-extras-nonfree & xine-lib-extras-nonfree, are not available and therefore says ‘Nothing to do”.
