Google Tasks as a standalone app – access it without logging into Gmail

By on March 3rd, 2009

Google Tasks is a simple way to manage your to-do list right inside your Gmail. Google Tasks was, until now, available only via Gmail or the iGoogle Gadget. To enable it in GMail you need to goto

GMail Settings > Labs > Enable Tasks

But now it seems that Google has launched Google Tasks as a standalone app.

But according to a news source, this release is just for testers and not meant for regular use. The Standalone version of Google Tasks lets you add tasks as you would do in the GMail version but it won`t let you delete any of the Tasks. You can just strike them off once done. The Standalone Version of  Google Tasks can be accessed at:

I am huge Google fan and use most all of their products but I am often surprised at the weak initial offerings of Google software. Tasks is a good example. You would think with the size of the company – their resources and personnel they could put out much stronger beta versions?

Google Tasks – no ability to print, backup, import, export? Painful to organize and add if you have a long list as I do. Some features available via the calendar but not on the email version. There are 1,000 todo programs on web that are stronger – would it have been easier to buy one of those and then tweak it to fit Google?

Yes. Google keeps on tinkering with new things. So we may expect a more improved version of tasks sooner or later.
