Worldspace Radio has a very unique New Year’s gift for their Indian customers. And the gift is – Worldspace Radio India will switch off its India broadcasting channels on Dec 31^st. This means bidding goodbye to their 450,000 local subscribers who are mostly part of the local Airtel DTH pay-television service.

Rapidnews reports that closing Worldspace has generated many inches of negative press in India. This decision is a result of Liberty Media’s acquiring Worldspace’s Chapter 11 assets which does not include Worldspace india in its purchase. The worst thing is Worldspace is even refusing to refund payments to exisitng subscribers. Even the staff at Worldspace India are furious at the decision as they will not be compensated either.
