Android has often been criticized for its high fragmentation (or in simpler term the presence of many different versions). According to a recent report, Google's effort to stop this fragmentation is working.

According to the report, Android 2.1 also known as Eclair is leading with more than 50% of the market share and Android 1.5 and 1.6 together makes up the other 50% (almost). Android 2.2 (Froyo) is absent since it has been released just a month ago.

Compared to earlier statistics, this new report shows that fragmentation in the Android market is becoming a thing of the past. Another very interesting thing is that the Eclair is the most prefered version. (Of course Froyo is too new.)
