Synapse is a new application launcher which does some amazing things.

Uptill now, like many I am a GNOME Do user, however Synapse has changed that. GNOME Do is an amazing application no doubt - but Synapse takes it further with its tight Zeitgeist integration. The Zeitgeist integration means that it not only launches applications - but also allows you to access your system files using the Zeitgeist log.

By default the shortcut to launch Synapse is CTRL+Space (You can change it). After launching, just like in GNOME Do, you have to type in the name of the application. Because of the Zeitgeist integration, you can also type in name of previously opened files and press ENTER to open it with the default application or TAB to choose a different one.

How To Install Synapse In Ubuntu

Synapse is available for Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" and Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat". To install, open the Terminal and execute the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:synapse-core/ppa

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install synapse

Themes

Synapse comes with four themes by default.

Dual

Virgillio
