Mojostreet LogoMojostreet is a stealth start-up based out of Hyderabad in India. It basically deals in location based mobile gaming and plans to use the existing social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare to garner traffic and engage users and their friends.

So, What is Mojostreet?

The fact that location based social networks like Foursquare and Facebook Places have started picking up in India, forms one of the most basic principles of Mojostreet functioning. Mojostreet’s location-based mobile application lets users check in at various point of interests (currently restricted to 55 Lakh odd locations in India) in a game format.Users will be then complemented with coupons, deals and discounts from various outlets.

According to the founder of Mojostreet location-based services are going to play a crucial role in community-based entertainment and eCommerce given that mobile data plans will gradually get more and more cheap.

Funding from Ex-Microsoft VP

Mojostreet recently announced that they have secured funds amounting to US $350,000 (~ Rs. 1.5 Cr) from a  former Managing Director of Microsoft India, Mr. Srinivas Koppolu  and J.A. Chowdary, former Managing Director of Nvidia India. Mojostreet plans to beta launch it's first mobile application in May and will use these funds in hiring new talent and revamping infra-structure.

Will Location Based Games Work In India?

In a country where more than half the population is still unaware of the Internet seeing such games come into place makes me feel "ponderous". Although there is no doubt that the internet-savvy metropolitan crowd will jump onto the Mojostreet bandwagon, it may take some time for Mojostreet to go main stream as location based services are still not very popular among mobile users.
