Last month Sony saw a great catastrophe in it's PlayStation Network being hacked. In what is thought to be the most severe security breach of its kind, hackers accessed personal information on 77 million PlayStation Network and Qriocity accounts. It was first discovered on April 19th. Sony, then had to shut down the network and its Qriocity online music and movie service. It had announced last week that all the things would be back to normal by 31st of May. Meanwhile, Sony has begun restoration of some of its PlayStation Network games service, almost a month after the security breach.

Sony Corporation Executive Deputy President Kazuo Hirai made the announcements regarding restoration.

The services are being restored in phases, and I am pleased to say that the first phase has been launched in most regions around the world. Features restored in the first phase :

• Playback rental service of the PlayStation Network Video Delivery Service for PS3, PSP and MediaGo devices.
• Music Unlimited on Qirocity for subscribers.
• Access to third party services, like Netflix and Hulu.
• Friends List, Chat and Trophy Comparison on PS3.
• PlayStation Home.

Sony reconfigured and updated the entire PlayStation Network following the breach of its security. The services of PSN will be restoring on country by country basis and worldwide access will get completed by 31st May. Sony Online Entertainment services are also being restored and its customers will be offered free game time as a compensation for the outage, the company said.

Amazon Servers Used in Sony Playstation Hack

Amazon's Web Services cloud- computing unit was used by hackers in last month’s attack against Sony. The hackers used fake personal information to set up an AWS account. They used this account to rent a server through Amazon’s EC2 service and launched the attack from there.The account has been shut down. Neither Sony nor Amazon commented on the claims.

The hack attack raises more concerns about the security of cloud-computing services such as Amazon’s. Last month Amazon had an outage in its Cloud supporting servers which downed many websites running on those servers.
