Working out is one of the more tedious parts of staying fit, particularly when you're on a stationary bicycle or treadmill. Watching television or listening to music are two common methods for passing the time. Sometimes, though, you may need to be more productive with your time, or you may not be in the mood to listen to music or watch a movie.

In those instances, you can actually use your eReader to catch up on some reading for business or pleasure. However, you will want to remember these tips for getting the most out of both your eReader and your workout.

Don't Work Out Without a Protective Cover

Your first step for working out with your eReader needs to be to get a good protective cover. Don't choose a soft cover. Choose one that you can easily clean and sterilize.

If you're getting a good workout in, you'll be sweating on it, even if you set it up on the ledge or try to keep it safe. You'll want to get a screen cover as well. These will prevent the sweat from getting into the screen or scratching it.

Don't Hold It and Run

Whether you're using an iPad or an Android eBook reader, you should not plan on holding your eReader and running. It's too dangerous. You need to place the eReader on a ledge or a holder of some kind.

You can purchase attachments for your bike so that the eReader will sit up approximately six inches from the monitor or it will clip directly onto the monitor. Make sure that it is securely fastened. You may be able to get away with holding the eReader while riding on your bike, but it's better to keep it out of your hands.

You'll be applying various levels of pressure if you start going too fast, and you could accidentally crack the screen if you hold it too tightly.

Only Change Pages While Working Out

When you're working out, you will need to make sure that you don't try to do too much on your eReader. It can be a little too tricky to select a new book. Restrict your activities to turning pages.

If you need to find another eBook, then stop working out, wipe off your hands, and then select it. Most eReaders come with hard buttons for actually selecting the page turns rather than having to rely on the touchscreen. Your accuracy will be much better if you use the actual buttons.

The touchscreen will lose its effectiveness if you get sweat on it, even with a protective cover.

You can easily staunch the boredom that comes from cardiovascular workouts by using your eReader to catch up on some reading. Whether you're reading business documents or the latest romance novel, the eReader can help you pass the time.

However, you will want to make sure that you don't work out without the proper protection for your eReader. You will also want to make sure that it is properly supported. While working out, make sure that you only try to change the pages. Don't switch books.

If you aren't careful, you may damage the eReader or reduce its effectiveness.
