The Amarok team has announced the release of Amarok 2.3 codenamed "Clear Light". The new release has a much requested feature - an Equalizer. The equalizer however uses kdelibs 4.4 , so you will have to be running KDE 4.4 for it to work.

As Amarok 2 is largely stable by now, for Amarok 2.3, the developers have focused on some new features for this release - some slightly experimental. The new features include a brand new main toolbar, which has removed the "next" and "previous" buttons and replaced them with the names of the song. Amarok 2.3 also comes with an new and much simpler file browser and a mood-bar.

Check out the new Amarok in the video below:

Amarok 2.3 is now available in the Kubuntu Backport PPA. You can install it by adding ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports to your software list.

You can get more informations about the new release here and don't forget to thank the Amarok team. 🙂
