Facebook Says That Google+ Has No Users

There is no denying the growing competition between the social networking giant, Facebook, and Google's new social network, Google+. There is no denying that Google+ is one of Google's most ambitious projects to data and they have Facebook worried. Facebook has been rolling out a number of new features recently in reply to Google+.

In reply to Google+'s much loved hangout, Facebook rushed to announce its half baked video chat in collaboration with Skype. Google has been constantly rolling out updates to Google+ and Facebook too has replied by rolling out small updates.

However, last week Google+ too added a feature which many love in Facebook - games. Games are responsible for a a large chunk of the time people spend on Facebook. Facebook takes 30% of the earnings from the games and it is a big source of revenue for them. Google+ Games, though, seems more developer friendly - at least on the pocket - as Google is taking only 5%.

According to the CNN, this is what Sean Ryan, Director of Games partnership at Facebook said:

Google has emulated aspects of our system, which is what they have the right to do. We just need to be better. Google is at 5% because they don't have any users.

At an estimated 25 million users, the number of Google+ users is only about 3% of Facebook's 750 million users. So, yes compared to Facebook, Google+ have very little users right now. The thing to remember here, though, is that while Facebook was launched in 2004, Google+ was launched less than two months ago. In fact, it is one of the largest growing social networks ever. In light of the difference in the number of users, it is no surprise that Google is taking a much lesser cut from the game developers.

Can Google+ challenge Facebook in terms of the number of users soon? It is too soon to answer right now. It is no surprise that every one tech savvy wanted to get on Google+. The problem that Google+ will face will be in attracting the normal users - and they comprise the majority of the people on the internet. In my opinion, Google+ is undoubtedly the better of the two. But to the average Facebook user, Facebook works fine and right now, Google+ offers them nothing that will make them want to switch - and they will have to face the problem of connecting with their friends on Google+ again.
