facebook-logo1Facebook will be providing it's user with usernames, which means that links to your profile pages wont be having some ref-id numbers anymore. Instead it will be having your username in it, similiar to what we have on Last.fm and LinkedIn. To access one's profile page one would now just have to type in www.facebook.com/<username> to access his/her profile page directly. It seems to be more easy and natural way of doing it compared to the current style which randomly assigns some irrelevant number to one's profile page.

The proposed service is scheduled to start at 12:01 a.m. EDT on Saturday, June 13. One will then be able to choose a username on a first-come, first-serve basis for his/her profile. Just be careful in selecting your username because once it's been selected, you won't be able to change or transfer it. Read more about it at the Facebook blog. Mike has a similar story on his blog where he says this entire episode of vanity URLs is nothing less than a landrush.
