Shutter is a great application to take screenshots for the linux desktop. The latest stable version shutter 0.86 was released come days back. Here we will tell you how to install Shutter 0.86 in Ubuntu.

To install Shutter 0.86, you have to use the PPA For Shutter Team.

To add the PPA in Lucid and Karmic, open the terminal and execute the command given below:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:shutter/ppa

To add it in earlier versions (upto Gusty), follow these steps:

  • Execute the command given below in the terminal,
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
  • In the source.list file, copy the lines given below. Save and close it.
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/shutter/ppa/ubuntu <YOUR_UBUNTU_VERSION_HERE> main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/shutter/ppa/ubuntu <YOUR_UBUNTU_VERSION_HERE> main
  • Then add the PPA's signing ey using the command:
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 009ED615

After the PPA has been added, update the the software list with the command:

sudo apt-get update

Then install Shutter with the command:

sudo apt-get install shutter
