Apple’s next generation iPhone is already in the pipeline and the industry is expecting it to make its debut at next year’s WWDC which is going to be held at Moscone West in the month of June. The next generation iPhone is rumored to have various hardware improvements like dual core processors etc, although nothing exact is known. But a recent post by digitimes seems to confirm that the upcoming iPhone will have 5 MP camera for sure.

According to the report, OmniVision, Apple’s current camera sensor supplier, confirmed that it has successfully secured orders for 5 MP sensors from Apple and that too for more than twice the quantity compared to previous year’s order. Apple had also laid more stress on image quality output over resolution so that the sensors can perform better in low light conditions and generate lesser noise. The chip is also expected to be fast enough to handle video recording at 1080p. Production of the sensors will start this winter and the iPhones sporting this 5 MP camera are expected to hit the stores by second half of 2010.
