    The first alpha of Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx is now available for testing. This will will be followed by two more alphas, two betas and an RC before the final release in April 2010.     Usplash which was used in Ubuntu 9.04 was replaced by Xsplash in Ubuntu 9.10 to provide a faster boot. Now, the Ubuntu team is replacing Xsplash with Plymouth.
    Plymouth is already in use Fedora. The reason for switching to plymouth is because xsplash was not able to provide a flicker free experience as expected.

    The release schedule for Ubuntu 10.04 has been confirmed.  The first beta is set to come out in March 2010 and the final release is to be released on 29th April 2010.
