Intel and Nokia have announced that they are merging their respective Linux operating environments to power future smart-phones and tablets. This merger will combine Intel’s Moblin platform with Nokia’s Maemo platform to create a new platform called MeeGo. Currently, Intel’s Moblin OS is used in Netbooks while Nokia’s Maemo powers Nokia’s N900.

Nokia Beta Labs has introduced a diagnostic and trouble-shooting software called Nokia Diagnostics. The developers believe that it will become a solution for helping millions of Nokia users diagnose, troubleshoot, and configure their devices with ease on their own.

Mozilla announced in their blog that the final build of their Firefox web browser is now available for Nokia’s Maemo platform. Maemo is a linux based smart phone OS which currently powers the Nokia N900. Firefox for Maemo brings many features that is part of the desktop Firefox on the mobile platform.

Although much time hasn’t passed since the N900 was launched, the guys at Nokia seems to have already come out with its successor, the N920. The N920 just like its predecessor, the N900, will have loads of features up on its sleeve. However this full touch-screen phone won’t be featuring a qwerty keypad.

Taking cues from two of the leading laptop makers, Dell and Acer’s move of venturing into smart-phone market, Finnish giant Nokia officially revealed that it might take the opposite route and make an entry into the laptop market. Nokia’s top-boss Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo said, ” We are looking very actively also at this opportunity”.
