The best microblogging client for Linux just got a lot better.

The second beta of the KDE microblogging client Choqok 1.0 has been released today. This release is codenamed "Reloaded" and according to the developers "it’s quit stable and usable now".

It has a number of new features but the one major new feature is that it supports OAuth now. Since Twitter is shutting down the basic authentication method starting from tomorrow, it is recommended that you switch to this version if you use Choqok.

This version also supports the "retweet" function in Twitter (not the manual RT thing). Another very interesting new feature is post filtering. Now you can filter tweets/dents based on text, author or author's client. This is a very useful feature. The number of URL shortening has also been increased with the addition of a few new ones. You can see the full feature list here.

It has currently not been packaged for Ubuntu/Kubuntu. But you can still get the source from here and build it yourself.

Building Choqok from source is not hard. But if you are having troubles, leave a comment. I may write another post on how to build it if people want it.

And before we end here is Choqok 1 Beta 2. 🙂
