Gmail tip: Secure your emails, protect your privacy

Various online email service providers generally protect your login information but do not encrypt all communications you do on your email through their website. But, Google's Gmail provides you with an option to protect all your emails and credentials using a method of encryption that is used by the banks for e-banking services and the likes. This service from Gmail is free and we will tell you how to configure it on your GMail account.

To use Gmail’s secure encryption capabilities (called SSL) you need not be an expert.You can this SSL Security feature for your GMail account in two ways and secure your emails thus protecting your privacy.

To turn on SSL for a single session:

• In your web browser’s address bar, type an “s” after http (“https://mail.google.com”, instead of “http://mail.google.com”.)

To turn on SSL for all future sessions:

• After logging into your account, click the “Settings” link in the top-right corner of the screen.
• Change the last setting on the page, called “Browser Connection” to “Always use https”.
• Hit the ‘Save Changes’ button, and refresh your browser to begin using SSL.
