Ubuntu 9.10 to have Cloud Computing

ubuntu-logo1Yesterday, Mark Shuttleworth, tha founder of  Canonical Ltd., has announced that Ubuntu 9.10 will be code-named “Karmic Koala”, another animal related name.

For the desktop, as Shuttleworth wrote, they are focussing on “first impressions”. He also announced a beautiful, faster, smooth and flicker-free startup. The desktop is also going to sport a new look with “a designer’s fingerprint all over it”. The new look will be unvieled in Ubuntu Developer Summit for version 9.10.

However, the biggest news is with the server. It is going to have cloud computing. Karmic Koala is API’s of Amazon EC2 to implement cloud computing using entirely open-source tools. They are also going to launch ready-to-run appliances and custom images to make application deployment in the cloud easy. In case the user would want to make a custom cloud, they will also include Eucalyptus, an open source cloud computing system.
