This is not the first time an antivirus update has made Windows go bonkers. We have earlier told you about an update in the McAfee antivirus which caused Windows XP to reboot continuously. Now it’s AVG’s turn. An update from AVG on Wednesday night forced all 64 bit Windows 7 systems into a continuous reboot loop.
The bug has affected both the server and desktop versions of the 64bit Windows 7 and the users (both free and paid versions of AVG) have already vented their anger through AVG’s online forum. According to The Register AVG hasn’t said what exactly caused the problem but such auto-immune glitches occur when security software packages identify a vital Windows component as potentially malign.
How to fix the Continuous Reboot Loop caused by the AVG update in Windows 7?
- Users who have downloaded this update, but did not restart their systems should manually delete the avgrs[x|a].exe and avgchsv[x|a].exe file from the system.
