amarok-logoAmarok 2.2, codenamed "Sunjammer", is now out of beta and the final version has been released now. The Amarok team has also announced that Amarok 2.2 will now come with Karmic Koala, which is due for release on 29th October. It, however, is not available for Jaunty and as they have said, there is no plan as of now to make it available for Jaunty users.

Now regarding Amarok 2.2, it now has dockable elements like the contex view, playlist etc. This means that you can arrange almost all the elements of the music player in any way that you like. You can not only change the positions but also the width, lengths of each elements. The playlist, which has been a constant point of critisism in earlier release, has received a lot of attention and now has a lot of features to sort and suffle the contents. It  is also possible to perform in-line tag correction and rating of the songs from the playlist itself. Another area that has recieved some major overhaul is the media scanning. Media scanning in Amarok 2.2 is now much faster and more accurate; and lots of bugs associated with importing library from Amarok 1.4 has now been fixed. Maybe this is to encourage the Amarok 1.4 fans to switch over. The media device support is now much more improved too.
