Lycos, Inc. removes the fake “CNN” page [update from “Twitter kills Johnny Depp”]
This is an update to our article titled "Twitter Kills Johnny Depp! [Not really]".
In our earlier post about the Johnny Depp death hoax in twitter, we mentioned that the hoax probably started due to a fake "CNN" page about the news hosted in Angelfire. After the news, Lycos, Inc., which owns Angelfire, contacted us and mentioned that they have removed the said page as it violates their terms and conditions.
Here is an excerpt from the email that Lycos sent to us:
The account you have brought to the attention of the Lycos Network Abuse Department was found to be in violation of our Terms and Conditions. As a result, it has been removed from our servers. Thank you for reporting it to us.
Angelfire is a free (ad supported) and paid web hosting service. As a result it is impossible for them to monitor each and every page hosted there. We are really impressed with how Lycos Inc. handled the situation and and removed the offending page really quickly.
