Internet Explorer 9 Downloaded 2.35 Million Times In 24 Hours

By on March 17th, 2011

It has been 24 hours since Microsoft released its new browser, Internet Explorer 9, and according to them the browser has been downloaded 2.35 million times in those 24 hours. That is an impressive number indeed!

This is what Ryan Gavin of Microsoft wrote announcing the number:

We want to thank everyone around the world for downloading IE9 and the enthusiastic reception. 2.3 million downloads in 24 hours is over double the 1 million downloads we saw of the IE9 Beta and four times that of the IE9 RC over the same time period.

Impressive as the number maybe, the number of Internet Explorer 9 downloads is still nowhere near the world record. The world record for the most downloads in the first 24 hours still belong to Firefox 3 which saw 8 million downloads in the first 24 hours. Also, Opera 11 was downloaded 6.7 million times on the first day.

Did you download Internet Explorer 9? How do you like it so far?

I dont care anything about Internet Explorer 9, Microsoft deliberately made it NOT work with my operating system which is Windows XP. I dont care what features are on that paper weight (IE9), it wont be better than Mozilla Firefox which is supported on every single operating system, including Linux.

Microsoft could have used OpenGL or Direct 3D for Windows XP users Internet Explorer 9, or they could have ported Direct 2D for XP users. This is pure business greed on Microsoft Part, they will never be dominant in the browser world with moves like this.
