How to install OpenOffice 3.2 in Ubuntu

OpenOffice 3.2 has already been released a few weeks back with some very interesting new changes and a faster loading time. However it is not yet available for Ubuntu in the PPA. So in this article we will show you how you can download and install OpenOffice 3.2 in Ubuntu from the OpenOffice download.

NOTE: In Ubuntu an optimized version of OpenOffice is used. This procedure will install the normal OpenOffice, not the Ubuntu optimized one.

To install OpenOffice in Ubuntu, follow he following steps:

  • Open the terminal
  • Remove OpenOffice from your system if it is already installed.

sudo apt-get remove openoffice*

  • Download OpenOffice.

For 32-bit:

wget http://download.services.openoffice.org/files/stable/3.2.0/OOo_3.2.0_LinuxIntel_install_en-US_deb.tar.gz

For 64-bit:

wget http://download.services.openoffice.org/files/stable/3.2.0/OOo_3.2.0_LinuxX86-64_install_en-US_deb.tar.gz

  • Unpack using the command,

For 32-bit:

tar -xvf OOo_3.2.0_LinuxIntel_install_en-US_deb.tar.gz

For 64-bit:

tar -xvf OOo_3.2.0_LinuxX86-64_install_en-US_deb.tar.gz

  • Now run the two commands given below to install OpenOffice:

cd OOO320_m12_native_packed-1_en-US.9483/

sudo dpkg -iR DEBS/
