Finally A Spotify Client For Linux [How To Install]
Spotify has finally released a linux client. Well it is not a full-featured client but hey atleast its a start. Spotify are calling this release a preview version and they do not offer any kind of support whatsoever.
This preview release is limited in several ways. It cannot play local files as they are yet to straighten out some issues regarding decoding of the local files. And another big limitation is that it will work with only Premium Accounts. Right now the client cannot display ads, so if you do not have a premium account, tough luck, you cannot use it.
A few months back we have already written how to install Spotify using Wine. However a lot of readers still have a lot of problems with the Wine installation.
Anyway to install it in Ubuntu 10.04 & Debian Squeeze, open the terminal and execute the following commands one by one:
$ sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list
Add the line:
deb http://repository.spotify.com stable non-free
Save and close. Continue with the following commands:
$ gpg --keyserver wwwkeys.de.pgp.net --recv-keys 4E9CFF4E
$ gpg --export 4E9CFF4E |sudo apt-key add -
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install spotify-client-qt spotify-client-gnome-support
