How to install Safari 4 in Ubuntu

Safari is the default web browser in Mac OS X. Although it is meant primarily for Mac OS X, it is also available for Windows. However, no version of Safari is available for Linux.

In this tutorial, w will tell you how to install Safari 4, the latest release of Safari, in Ubuntu.

To install Safari 4 in Ubuntu, follow the following steps:

sudo apt-get install wine
wget http://www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks
sh winetricks corefonts
  • In the terminal, navigate to where you saved the Safari installer and open it through Wine with this command:
wine SafariSetup.exe

Note these points:

  • Safari will crash the first time you run it because of the welcome animation, but should work after that.
  • Opening a new tab in Safari may cause it to crash. To fix this, open Safari preferences, and in “General” category, set “New tabs open with:” option to “Empty Page”.
