How to Sync Nexus One with Rythmbox Music Player

By on March 24th, 2010

The Ubuntu One Music Store is coming in Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx in Rythmbox. This means that Canonical is planning to have Rythmbox as a the "iTune of Ubuntu". With iPhones/iPod Touch now working out-of-the-box in Ubuntu Lucid Lynx, it seems all good for Rythmbox. However, there is still a problem with Rythmbox not being able to sync with Nexus One.

Here is a hack (a really simple one actually) you can do to have Rythmbox being able to sync with your Nexus One:

  • Create a new file and name it .is_audio_player
  • Open the file and copy the content below in it. Save.
audio_folders=Music/
folder_depth=2
output_formats=audio/mpeg,audio/mp3
  • Now, copy the file to the root of the SD card of your Nexus One.
  • Unmount and remount the Nexus One. Now Rythmbox should detect it.

    uffff…if ubuntu plans on making rhythmbox it’s “itunes”, it’s got a long way to go. no offense, but rhythmbox lacks in some categories where itunes blows it out of the water..
    at least for my tastes…

    this will just allow rhythmbox to detect the nexus one but not actually sync songs from rhythmbox to nexus one
