How to fix all issues with the 64bit Chrome Browser on Fedora Linux?
We haven told you how you can install the Google's Chrome browser successfully on a Fedora Linux box earlier. In that article we had also mentioned about the availability of 64 bit versions of the Google Chrome package for fedora linux. But some of our users reported reported various problems which sent an indication that the Chome Browser was still not ready for the 64bit platforms. So, in this article we will tell you how to setup the chrome browser for 64bit platforms on Fedora Linux.Among the various errors as reported by our readers, the most prominent ones were:
- Unavailability of name resolution in browser which means if you typed a website's url in your browser then it would not load, but if you type the IP address corresponding to the URL's host, then there was no problems in opening the page.
- Some users also got a "Error 105 (net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED): The server could not be found".
- Another very strange error: Error 0 (net::OK): Unknown error
So we will now tell you how you can enjoy using the Chrome Browser even on your 64bit Fedora Linux System. First of all install a fresh version of Google Chrome for Fedora on your system. All the errors mentioned above occurred just due to the unavailability of a package called: nss-mdns.i586. So in order to fix the issue all you need to do is just install this missing package. To do so, you need to type the following command in a terminal:
sudo yum -y install nss-mdns
After installation, you must restart your Google Chrome browser for the changes to be applied. Thanks Lian for the tip.
