How To Install Wine 1.2 RC6 In Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx

Wine 1.2 is not yet released as expected but now a new release candidate for Wine 1.2 has been released. This is the sixth release candidate for Wine 1.2. Wine 1.2 RC6 has a lot of bug-fixes and some more translations. There are still a few bugs left to be squashed but we are hoping that it will get shorted and Wine 1.2 will be released this month.

Anyway, if you are in Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx and want to try out Wine 1.2 RC6, here is what you need to do:

Note: This is a release candidate not a final release. So treat it as such.

  • Open the terminal (or Konsole if you are in Kubuntu).
  • Add the PPA For Ubuntu Wine Team with the command

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa

  • Update the software list with

sudo apt-get update

  • Finally install Wine 1.2 RC6 with the command

sudo apt-get install wine1.2
