Linux to be the First Operating System to support USB 3.0
By around September 2009, Linux is all set to become the first Operating System to supposrt USB 3.0. Sarah Sharp, Linux Kernel hacker at Intel’s Open Source Technology Center, has announced that the first driver for USB 3.0 devices are now available. If you want to see the source code, it can be found can be found under Sarah's name at git.kernel.org. Sarah also mentioned that the patches have been queued for Kernel 2.6.31 so that Linux users can get official USB 3.0 support from around September 2009.
USB 3.0 is a new standard announced in November 2008 by the USB Implementor's Forum, Inc. It specifies the transfer rate of USB 3.0 as 5Gbps. And you can follow Sarah Sharp on twitter. She also has her own website at http://sarah.thesharps.us/ (however it doesn't seem to be working when we wrote this).
