Want to stay Invisible on Google Talk? Read On..

By Debjit on March 9th, 2010

Google Talk is getting cozier. You can now stay invisible right from your Google Talk client. This feature currently is available on Google Talk, Labs Edition. Even though the Labs Edition was launched long back, it still has not gained much popularity considering the fact that it is available for download only from Google Labs.

One unique feature of Google Talk Labs Edition is Group Chat. You can chat with as many people as you like in your friends list together. This feature is also available is the Google Talk Gadget which is the Web Version of Google Talk.

But file transfers, i.e. ‘Send Files’ option is not available in Google Talk Labs Edition. This feature is exclusive to the original Google Talk.

Things you ‘can’ do using Google Talk Labs Edition-

  1. Stay Invisible
  2. Group Chat
  3. Direct link to your Orkut account
  4. Youtube Integration, ability to play videos in the chat window itself
  5. Snooze Calendar notifications

Things you ‘cannot’ do using the Google Talk Labs Edition-

  1. Send Files
  2. Make PC-to-PC calls
  3. Voicemail
  4. No ‘Show Current Music Track’
  5. Chat Conversations cannot be copy-pasted
  6. Display Pictures cannot be uploaded
  7. Send Scraps to your Orkut Friends

So if staying invisible and group chat is what you want, download 'Google Talk, Labs Edition' from here. Check some screenshots below:

PS: What we believe is and by the time Labs edition is released as a public download, all these options which are unavailable in the Labs edition will be brought back in the Public release too.
