The inclusion of systemd was supposed to be one of the main improvements in Fedora 14 "Laughlin". The first alpha of Fedora 14 was shipped with systemd.

However, there has been a change of plan - there will be no systemd in Fedora 14. Instead they will now focus on getting systemd in Fedora 15. This is done to give systemd more time to become more polished and fix some bugs.

Systemd is a new system initialization and session management daemon for Linux. Instead of following the usual process of starting a service, used by init.d and upstart, systemd only starts the service when some tries to connect to it. This has many potential benefits including a faster booting time and simpler system configuration process.

For the moment though, we have to do with upstart in Fedora 14.
