Buffalo dives into USB 3.0, unveils 12x Blu-ray burner, external HDDs
USB 3.0 ‘superspeed’ has not yet arrived (expected to roll out with all due respect early next year), but that’s not stopping hardware giants from launching products that support USB 3.0. This time its Buffalo, who have went ahead and launched their first USB 3.0 External HDD (DriveStation HD-HXU3) and a 12x Blu-ray burner (BR-X1216U3) also supporting USB 3.0 for people like you and me.
There is nothing note-worthy about their performance except for the fact that they are very very fast. The External HDD promises a transfer rate of 625 MBps and will be available in capacities of 1, 1.5 and 2 TB. Both the devices are backward compatible, so should work with USB 2.0 seamlessly. Buffalo is also shipping a 2 port USB 3.0 PCI Express Interface Card, so that you don’t miss out on the fun even if your computer doesn’t support USB 3.0.
Prices for the External HDD starts at $200 approx (for 1 TB) and comes with a 3 year warranty, while the Blu-ray burner costs some $450 and is currently available in Japan.
