Stories of RSS being dead have been doing rounds for quite some time now. Although technocrats have long said that RSS is here to stay and is an important part of the web but looks like major proponents of the protocol like Google does not believe so. Google has announced that it will pull the plugs on Google Reader from July 1, 2013.

According to a recent blog post from Google, although Google Reader has got a huge fan following and a number of loyal users, but the user base of Google Reader has been gradually declining. As a result Google is finally retiring the Google Reader web product on July 1 2013.

Well, following this news, we have also learnt that Nick Bradburry who is known for creating the famous Windows based RSS reader FeedDemon, has also announced that he will no longer pursue the development of FeedDemon. According to his blog post, FeedDemon depends on Google Reader for Feed synchronization. And now that Google reader is shutting down, he is no longer interested in working on integrating FeedDemon with some other Feed synchronization service.

However, if you are not using the Feed sync service, then you can continue using FeedDemon for reading feeds but you wont find any updates for the software in future unless Nick decides to start working on it again.
