Ice Cream Sandwich: Next Android OS

Google, at the I/O Conference, said it is packing the best of its Honeycomb tablet computer software into a new “Ice Cream Sandwich” version of Android for mobile devices. Google intends to meld its Honeycomb tablet wares and Gingerbread smartphone software into one delicious Ice Cream Sandwich. There goes the Sandwich. Ice Cream Sandwich, which is set to release by the end of the year, will advance Android smartphone capabilities by leaps and bounds.

There were only a few features which Google revealed, keeping the major ones locked behind the door. Some of the features which we will see in this new version are:

A Unified OS :

Ice Cream Sandwich will be a cross-platform OS. It’ll be a universal OS that runs on everything from teeny tiny Android phones to 10-inch tablets and will intelligently adapt to each form factor with things like a resizable status bar. The OS will essentially be smart enough to figure out which type of device the app is running on and then adjust parameters.

Android engineering team chief Mike Claron said:

Our top priority for Ice Cream Sandwich will be one operating system that runs everywhere. It will work on phones in every size and shape, tablets in every size – even tablets that transform to laptops.

Google has made a lot of effort to keep its customers happy. The new version seems really promising. We can surely wait this long for it to launch.
