Try Diaspora Without Hosting It On Your Own
The "Facebook competitor" is finally here. Yesterday, the Diaspora source code was released for everyone to use, hack and run it on their own server.
If you are using Ubuntu, Fedora or Mac OSX, the Diaspora team already has instructions on you can run it in your machine. If you do not want to bother with all those and just want to see what all the fuss is about, there is openspora.com
Openspora, com is just a host running the Diaspora code released yesterday for everyone to get a glimpse of Diaspora. So, if you don't like the idea of installing all the Ruby Gems just to see Diaspora, head over to openspora.com.
UPDATE: It seems that Openspora.com is unable to handle the huge traffic spike, so may not be available at times!
Here are a couple of screenshots I took:
As of now, Diaspora seems very bare. There is absolutely nothing to it except the album and status updates. And the photo uploader never seems to work for me.
