facebookIf you are getting unnecessary and regular spam on your wall either from nowhere or from one of your friends  then there is a high possibility that either you or your friend have been affected by a Facebook phishing attack and your account security has been compromised. Here are six important steps which we feel, if followed in these cases, will help you to get rid of the phishing attack.

  • Don’t click on any link/URL in the received spam message. Just delete the message from your Walls and Inbox immediately.
  • Reset your Facebook password immediately, either by clicking on the Forgot Password Link on the login page or by going to the Account Settings Page once you log in.
  • If you can't reset the password or if your account has been disabled, contact The Facebook User Operations Team .
  • Scan your computer completely using a good antivirus software. Some good, free Online Virus checking programs are Panda, Symantec, Kaspersky, McAfee, Windows OneCare and Bit Defender
  • If your  Windows PC or Mac has been infected with malware or a virus, you can visit the Microsoft and Apple Security websites for proper patches. Linux users need not worry about malware or virus infection.

  • Start using OpenDNS as your DNS servers. Open DNS boasts of a very good anti phishing engine that works. Using OpenDNS may also help you from getting phished on Facebook.
