New York Post Blocks Website Access For iPad; Forces Users To Buy iPad App
New York Post (NY Post for the others) is one of the leading publications in USA and happens to be the 13th oldest daily to be published since 1801. The NYPost is now America's 7th largest news paper by circulation and it's website nypost.com is regularly updated with news as they happen.
Their content includes breaking news, entertainment, business and sports blogs and streaming video for selected live events. Till today the website of NYPost was accessible from any device including Laptops, Mobile phones and iPads.
However, now when users try to access the NYPost.com website on their iPad, the users are redirected to another page which shows a screenshot of the iPad app of NYPost. The page has a message which reads something like this:
Thanks for coming! NYPOST.com editorial content is now only accessible on the iPad through the New York Post App. If you are a current New York Post App subscriber, please visit the App Store and download the latest version to access NYPOST.com through the INDEX. If you are not a current New York Post App user and would like to subscribe, please download from the App Store. Thank you.
If you do not have an iPad then you can see the message at this link. The iPad app of NYPost is not free and costs $1.99 in the Apple App Store. In addition to it you also need to purchase a monthly subscription to the app which costs you another $6.99 per month.
Now, for regular casual readers of NYPost.com who used to enjoy the content on their iPad for free till today, will they be convinced enough to buy the app as well as purchase a subscription? A couple of months back, NYTimes (New York Times) also implemented a similar PayWall, but the NYTimes iPad app is downloadable for free (unlike NYPost) and users can access all front page content on the app for free.
Access New York Post (NYPost) Website For Free On iPad
However, there is a way you can still access the NYPost.com content for free on your iPad without paying a single buck. All you need to do is download the free Opera Mini Browser from the Apple App Store.
Once downloaded, just open the Opera Mini browser and hit http://nypost.com or http://m.nypost.com in the browser bar. Yeeehawww! This way, you will be able to access all NYPost.com content for free. However this is not a permanent method, as NYPost will block access to Opera Mini on the iPad as soon as they find out.
