Compiz is one the most recognizable windows manager around. It is responsible for sucking in many Windows users to Linux. In a blog post yesterday, Compiz developer, Sam Spilsbury, outlined what to expect from Compiz 0.9.2.

Here is a brief list of the new stuffs that Compiz 0.9.2 will bring:

New Natural Scale Layout

Inspired by KDE's KWin, Compiz has dropped the grid based layout for a natural scale layout. The new layout positions the windows proportionally to their original position in the screen, instead of assigning them in grids.

New Animations

Compiz is bringing a lot of new animations. The new animations are called Ghost, Black Hole, Dissolve, Flicker, Popcorn, Raindrop, Pulse and Fan.

Here is a demo video:

Theatre Mode for EZoom

The EZoom plugin will have a new theatre mode. It will darken all the non-selected areas in a zoom selection. This is a much requested feature and is perfect for perfect for watching zoomed-in video on a website.

Minimized Windows Preview

Compiz 0.9.2 will have a new plugin to allow preview of minimized windows. I am not a Compiz user but I was under the impression that Compiz already has this feature. Oh well.

Other New Plugins And Bugfixes

There are a lot of other new plugins like Sound, Reflective Surface for Docky etc.

They are not only concentrating on adding new features for this Compiz release; they are also fixing a lot of bugs. Three big bugs from the 0.9.0 releae has been fixed.

You can read more about it here.
